Passenger and freight trains collide in Greek Thessaloniki: there are victims

At least 16 people have been killed and dozens injured in a train collision in Greece, according to EPT News..

A passenger train between Thessaloniki and Larissa collided with a freight train near Tempe, about 380 kilometers north of Athens.. As a result of the collision, several cars derailed, at least three of them caught fire..



A fire brigade spokesman said 16 people had died and at least 85 were injured.. There were 350 passengers on the train..

Doctors in Larissa say at least 25 injured are in serious condition.

According to the authorities, all survivors were rescued from the rubble, and emergency services are now looking only for the dead, so the number of victims will rise..

The military joined in the rescue. Two additional hospitals in the city of Larisa were put on emergency duty.
