The Ministry of Education of Latvia, which recently adopted a law on the state language proficiency exam for citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus living in the country, is now working on a decision to stop teaching the Russian language in schools. Delphi reports..

The relevant legislative amendments adopted this year suggest that in the next three years, schools in Latvia will completely switch to teaching in the Latvian language.. At the same time, as a second foreign language, children will learn one of the EU languages.

Currently, more than 300 schools in Latvia – or about half – offer Russian as a second foreign language. It is already very difficult to find teachers who taught any language of the EU countries. At the same time, few students study for teachers teaching foreign languages..

" Within a month, we will develop our proposal on how to provide the necessary number of teachers so that this second foreign language can be taught,"

At the same time, the ministry is considering the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a special program to prepare Russian school teachers to teach entirely in Latvian.. And teachers of the Russian language - to teaching other subjects.

" Perhaps you can talk to these students about teaching hours.. That is, there are many solutions.. Talk to embassies, attract teachers from our diaspora,"

Recall that earlier the government of Latvia allocated almost 560 thousand euros from the state budget for the purchase of generators for the Ukrainian state media.
