The Norwegian Immigration Authority reports that refugees from Ukraine in 2022 made up the majority of those who applied for shelter.

The country received 40,750 asylum applications, a new record, having previously received the most applications (31,150) in 2015, at the height of Europe's migration crisis..

Most of these appeals were about a request for temporary collective protection against refugees from Ukraine - 34,487. Another 386 such applications were sent by citizens of other countries. In total, during 2022, the Norwegian authorities granted 33,554 requests.

The number of asylum seekers in Norway has increased not only because of Ukrainian refugees - there has been an increase in applications from other countries. There were 5517 such individual applications - this is the maximum since 2015.

The majority of individual asylum applications were submitted by citizens of Syria (1591), followed by Afghanistan (516), Eritrea (325) and Russia (294). 1105 such applications were approved.

As a result of the increase in asylum seekers in Norway, the number of people living in temporary accommodation centers has increased dramatically in 2022 - from two to nine thousand.

Recall, earlier it was reported that, despite the energy crisis in Ukraine, in December, Ukrainian refugees en masse went home from Poland.
