Slovenia officially received the first female president in history: Natasha Pirc Musar took the oath at the solemn meeting of the People's Assembly (Slovenian Parliament) and will officially take up her duties tomorrow, the Slovenian edition of RTV SLO reported.

Natasha Pirc Musar was elected president on November 13 this year in the second round of elections. Thus, she became the first female president in the history of Slovenia.. Her victory strengthened the liberal bloc of political forces in the country: in April, the center-left won the parliamentary elections.

“Today I have sworn an oath that every day of my life will be dedicated to you. To you who is the country. A country is not something abstract, but a living organism of all of us who are part of it. All of us who proudly say that they are citizens of Slovenia,” said the new President of the country in her speech..

Pirc Musar stressed that she has always advocated and will continue to advocate the rule of law, fundamental human rights and the autonomy of state subsystems.

" That's why we have to care how these subsystems are treated. We all need to know where politics should stop, and every day we must again realize that subsystems serve first of all us, the inhabitants, and not the authorities,” she said..

Also, the new Slovenian president announced that she would visit the countries of Western Europe as part of her first foreign visit..

Borut Pahor, who handed over powers to Natasha Pirc Musar on Friday, said he was pleased with the work done on his part and wished his successor success in her work.

Pirc Musar previously worked as a lawyer for former US President Donald Trump's wife Melania and Slovenia's information commissioner.

The President of Slovenia has limited powers, but he formally proposes the candidacy of the prime minister of parliament and can dissolve him if he does not approve his cabinet for a long time.

Recall that Slovenia supports Ukraine, including with weapons: the country transferred 35 military vehicles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and promised tanks.

Also this fall, a woman became Prime Minister of Italy - for the first time in the history of the country..
