The Seimas of Lithuania allowed private arms dealers to sell category A weapons permitted in civilian circulation. This is discussed on the website of the Parliament.
“Archers, volunteer soldiers, soldiers of professional military service will finally be able to purchase category A weapons in Lithuania. Six months ago we allowed to have (such weapons), now we allow buying them here in Lithuania,” said Laurynas Kasciunas, head of the Seimas Committee on National Security and Defense.
Realities in Ukraine as an impetus for the decision to allow civilian weapons.
The Vice-Speaker of the Seimas Paulus Saudargas also emphasized the importance of this provision: “Let's look at the realities in Ukraine. A reality in which not only trained and prepared for this armed forces, who had weapons, but also the whole people entered the struggle. Territorial defense was mostly in haste. What to do if your country is at war? Let's think for ourselves whether it is better to do this at the last moment in a few weeks, distributing machine guns left and right, it is better to give the public, the part that can and wants to resist, calmly acquire weapons in time, which they will know, get used to, with which they will train?
in a shooting range where you can put optics, a thermal imager and learn how to train with those weapons so that, God forbid, if necessary, you can go to defend the country "
At the initiative of the National Security and Defense Committee, the draft was supplemented with provisions on the prohibition of the acquisition and storage of weapons, weapons accessories, ammunition and their parts by citizens of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus who do not have citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania.
106 deputies of the Seimas voted for the draft after consideration, none was against, 10 deputies abstained.
