French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that there is an agreement to withdraw heavy weapons from Ukraine's Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and that negotiations are underway on terms.

“We managed to protect Chernobyl, and our goal is to protect Zaporozhye. The coming weeks will be decisive,” he said during his visit to an international conference in Paris on aid to Ukraine, France24 reports..

The President of Ukraine, speaking at a donor conference, said that the country needs energy assistance for 800 million euros.

A donor conference has kicked off in Paris to help provide Ukraine with electricity, food, heat and mobility in the face of Russia's relentless aerial bombardment that has plunged millions of people into cold and darkness during the winter.

The conference, which brought together delegations from 47 countries, is expected to gather and help coordinate many tens of millions of dollars in aid.
