Even if protests break out in Germany due to high energy prices in autumn and winter, this will not lead to the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation, said Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock, DW reports..

“We will be on the side of Ukraine, and this means that the sanctions will continue in the winter, even if it is very difficult for politicians,” the German Foreign Minister assured.

Burbock also added that she expects protests from citizens who will complain to the authorities about rising energy prices.. However, in her opinion, the response to the protests should be social measures, not the lifting of sanctions..

“I make a promise to the people of Ukraine: we will be with you as long as you need us,” Burbock said..

Burbock believes that Ukraine may need new heavy weapons next summer.

She also stated that Germany is in favor of the introduction of a new, eighth, package of EU sanctions against Russia.. Proposals for this have already been made..
