The Saeima of Latvia on Thursday, August 11, adopted a resolution on targeted Russian military attacks on the civilian population of Ukraine and public space, in which Russia's violence against the civilian population is recognized as terrorism, and Russia is a state that supports terrorism. 67 deputies of the country's parliament voted for this report, 16 did not vote, according to the Latvian edition DELFI.

In the resolution, the Parliament of Latvia recognizes Russia's violence against the civilian population, which is carried out to achieve political goals, as terrorism, and Russia as a state supporting terrorism and calls on other like-minded countries to express the same opinion.

In the adopted document, the Seimas also calls on the countries of the European Union to immediately suspend the issuance of tourist and entry visas to citizens of Russia and Belarus..

The Latvian Parliament also recalls that since 2014. Russia military, financially and politically supports violent separatism and violence against civilians in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine, as well as on the occupied Crimean peninsula.

In addition, it is emphasized that Russia has been supporting and financing other terrorist regimes and organizations for many years.. Russia is the largest arms supplier to the Assad regime in Syria, has carried out terrorist attacks in sovereign countries, including the poisoning of the Fiddler family in the UK and the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH-17, which killed 298 people..

The statement recalls the constant attacks by Russian troops on civilians, including a deliberate attack on a theater in Mariupol, rocket attacks on a residential area near Odessa, an attack on a shopping center in Kremenchug, and more.. In particular, the Latvian parliament relies on clear evidence published by human rights groups and international monitoring missions about Russian atrocities in Ukraine..

The Latvian parliament also mentioned the terrorist act of Russia against Ukrainian prisoners of war held in the prison of the occupied Yelenovka.. The statement notes that with this attack, Russia demonstrates a disregard for its obligations, the international order and its institutions, and deliberately deepens the global food crisis, which will lead to hunger and suffering around the world..

The statement also notes the immoral and illegal nature of the tactics that Russia has chosen, widely using especially cruel, inaccurate weapons that maim and cause special suffering.. At the end of the text of the statement, all the victims of Russian aggression in Ukraine are mentioned - thousands of civilians and defenders of Ukraine, solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

During a speech in the Sejm, the head of the Foreign Affairs Commission, Richard Kohl, said that this is a political statement, but if the member states of the European Union and other countries recognize Russia as a terrorist state, there will be more legal consequences..

Recall, on July 27, the US Senate adopted a resolution calling for the recognition of the Russian Federation as a sponsor of terrorism for aggression against Ukraine, Georgia and Chechnya and the death of a huge number of people. A similar document is being prepared in the House of Representatives.
