Moldova received a recommendation from the European Commission on granting candidate status for EU membership. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, wrote about this on Twitter..
“We also recommend granting candidate status to Moldova, understanding that the country will carry out reforms.
Moldova is on a true pro-reform, anti-corruption and European path. There's still a long way to go. But we believe she has the potential to meet the criteria,” von der Leyen wrote..
“For Moldova, our assessment goes in the same direction as for Ukraine. We also recommend that the Council grant Moldova a European perspective and candidate status with the understanding that the country will carry out a number of further important reforms,” the head of the EC added at a briefing in Brussels.
