The European Commission has made advance payments of 3.5 billion euros to EU member states hosting Ukrainian refugees. Elisa Ferreira, Commissioner for Cohesion and Reform.
“The EU is in solidarity with Ukraine and opposes the Russian invasion. Member States show their commitment by hosting people fleeing war. Today we see another concrete result of our unity, the result of which is the mobilization of common funds to where they are needed most,” Ferreira said..
Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights Nicholas Schmidt noted that people fleeing the war in Ukraine need immediate support to restore a full life in a safe place.. Through these advance payments, Member States can offer food, housing, health care, education, employment assistance and other essential services to refugees..
Advance payments for EU member states are designed primarily to reduce budget spending on assistance to Ukrainian refugees.
