17 years after the outbreak of anthrax in the US, the president introduced a new national strategy for protecting against bacteriological weapons.

President of the United States Donald Trump presented a new national strategy to combat epidemics of dangerous infections and bioterrorism. This is reported by the Voice of America.

The date of the presentation was timed to an outbreak of anthrax, which in 2001 terrorists staged in the United States.

According to Trump, the strategy is based on lessons learned during various incidents involving biological weapons, in particular the epidemic of a deadly variety of influenza in the US in 2009 and the epidemic of the Ebola virus in West Africa.

At the cabinet level, the president established a coordinating committee for biosecurity, which was headed by John Bolton, Presidential Adviser on National Security.

US Health and Human Services Minister Alex Azar, who will lead the implementation of the national strategy, said that biological threats "are very real and they are increasing all the time".

Earlier, Germany's federal prosecutor stated that modern terrorists who intend to commit crimes in Europe are studying a variety of attack scenarios - including using biological weapons.
