German Chancellor Angela Merkel made a number of proposals on how to reform the EU and make Europe a global player.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for the European Union to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council, replacing the membership of individual states - France and Britain. This Merkel said at a meeting of the faction of the European People's Party in the European Parliament, reports Deutsche Welle.

The Chancellor believes that US President Donald Trump is destroying the current world order, so the EU should become more cohesive.

There is a reorganization of the world order, as evidenced by disagreements with the US in NATO, the release of Trump of their Paris climate agreement and the deal with Iran. In such a situation, the EU should find a new and more decisive role for itself, said Merkel.

"If Europe wants to become a global player, it must act as a global player," she said, noting that such a position requires financial investments.

Merkel urged to abandon the monthly meetings of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, which cost multimillion dollars. She also proposed the creation of a European Security Council, which would include ten members for rapid decision-making in the field of foreign and security policy.
