The Christian Democratic Union must conduct a serious renewal of its party program, the leader of Germany said at today's congress of the CDU.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel approved the decision of the congress of her political council - the Christian Democratic Union of Germany - to sign a coalition agreement with the Social Democratic Party, urging the Christian democrats to "restore the confidence of voters". This is reported by the local agency Deutsche Welle.

According to her, the agreement on the coalition, which the CDU / CSU unit still does not conclude with the Social Democrats (SPD), is the result of the "unsatisfactory result of Christian democrats in the elections to the Bundestag".

Merkel believes that the fall in the ratings of the CDU obliges the leadership of the party to react "to the anxiety and dissatisfaction of the electorate". She is convinced that the result of the elections "does not correspond to the goals set for the party", although the CDU Germans supported more than other political forces.

Nevertheless, the Chancellor believes, the party can not afford to give up the task of forming a government only because the elections were less successful than expected from them.

"The CDU should restore the confidence of voters," Merkel said, adding that the party needs software updates.

February 26, 2018 delegates of the CDU congress voted to sign a coalition agreement with the SPD. The results of the written decision of the Social Democrats will be known on March 4.
