Scientist Chen Wu of the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences offered his explanation of why the EmDrive engine, whose principle of work causes arguments among specialists, does not violate the laws of physics. The explanatory note is accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed journal Acta Astronautica. Specialist drew attention to the original explanation of the work EmDrive, proposed by the creator of the unit by the British Roger Schoyer. In it to calculate the thrust developed by EmDrive, only two vertical forces are taken into account, but the effect of forces having horizontal components is neglected. Accounting for the latter, according to Wu, avoids the contradiction associated with the apparent breach of the EmDrive law of conservation of momentum. Schoier's unaccounted contribution in this case mathematically reduces to the surface integral of the Umov-Poynting vector (the vector of the energy flux density of the electromagnetic field), and physically to the radiation pressure on the side walls of the cavity EmDrive. Wu notes that, due to its axial symmetry, the horizontal and vertical contributions of previously unaccounted forces compensate each other on average, however, for a short time interval, on the order of ten nanoseconds, an imbalance is possible. Conceptually, the EmDrive engine consists of a magnetron that generates microwaves and a resonator that stores the energy of their oscillations. Outwardly, the unit resembles a bucket. The design, proposed for the first time in 1999 by Schoyer, allows, according to him, to convert radiation into traction. In November 2016, a group of scientists from NASA published an article about EmDrive in the refereed Journal of Propulsion and Power. There it is reported that EmDrive in a vacuum develops a thrust of 1.2 million nylon per kilowatt.

The reviewers could not find any errors in the design of the test bench and the unit, and the authors of the work - a retroactive force that responds to the reactive thrust developed by EmDrive, which must be present in accordance with the law of conservation of momentum. The conservation laws are a consequence of the symmetry properties of space-time. For example, the law of conservation of momentum is a reflection of the homogeneity of space - the equality of its properties regardless of the point chosen in it, and the law of conservation of energy - the homogeneity of time.
