German Chancellor held telephone conversation with Spanish Prime Minister. German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her full support for the position of the Spanish government on the question of the referendum on the independence of Catalonia. She said this during a telephone conversation with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rahoi, reports the Spanish news agency EFE. The agency, citing its own sources in the executive branch of Spain, reported that the head of the Bundestag "expressed full support to the head of the Spanish executive branch and expressed her trust and commitment to the existing constitutional order and respect for the laws".

Recall, the authorities of Catalonia intend to hold on October 1 a referendum on independence, which does not recognize Spain. The parliament of the autonomous community adopted on September 6 a law on the referendum. Voters should answer the question: "Do you want Catalonia to become an independent state with a republican form of government?". Thus, the central authorities of Spain blocked the electronic system of vote counting in Catalonia.
