German Ambassador for the second time in two days summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry

The call of the German diplomat is connected with the reaction of the Turkish authorities to the resolution of the Bundestag. German Ambassador to Ankara Martin Erdman should appear in the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Monday evening, September 18. The call of the ambassador was confirmed by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany Martin Schaefer. According to him, the department has already lost count of the number of calls for "our unfortunate ambassador". According to the journal Der Spiegel, which Schaefer could not confirm or deny, the challenge of the German diplomat is connected with the painful reaction of the Turkish authorities to the resolution of the Bundestag, which condemned the Armenian Genocide in the times of the Ottoman Empire. After the adoption of the document in June 2016, Ankara withdrew its ambassador from Berlin for consultations. The conflict was slightly smoothened when the German government explained that this decree had no legal force.

The last time the FRG ambassador was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Saturday, September 16, in connection with the action held in Cologne in support of the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, Abdullah Ocalan, serving his sentence in the Turkish prison. According to the Turkish authorities, at the event, in which several thousand Kurds took part, "terrorist propaganda".
