Most people suffering from hunger live in Asia - 520 million people. In 2016, 815 million people suffered from hunger in the world, or 11% of the world's population. This exceeds the previous year's figure by 38 million people, according to a study conducted by the three UN structural units - the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Food Program (WFP). It is noted that in 2016 the number of people suffering from hunger increased for the first time in the last ten years. In 2005, they recorded 926 million people, but in subsequent years this figure has been constantly decreasing. Most people suffering from hunger live in Asia - 520 million people. However, the proportion of such people is the highest in Africa, where 20% of the population or 243 million people suffer from hunger. In East Africa, the proportion of people who suffer from hunger reaches almost 34%.

The UN believes that the sharp aggravation of the problem of hunger in the world is connected with military conflicts and climate change. Recall, earlier in the UN reported that hunger forces people to leave their homes in search of food, and massive population movements lead to aggravation of humanitarian crises and a huge burden on the food systems of countries that accept migrants.
