The money was transferred to terrorist organizations as a ransom for captive members of the royal family. The authorities of Qatar recognized a payment of $ 1 billion to terrorist groups, the Financial Times reported citing field commanders and government representatives of the emirate. According to the publication, the money was part of a deal to release 26 members of the ruling family, captured in Iraq during the hunt, as well as 50 people captured by terrorists in Syria. Sources said that the money was received both by groups swearing allegiance to Al-Qaeda and other extremist organizations associated with the Iraqi authorities.

It is noted that the deal between the terrorists and Doha was concluded in April and raised questions among Qatar's neighbors about the role of the country in the region affected by conflicts and confrontations. Earlier it was reported that on June 5, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, as well as Egpet and the United Arab Emirates announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorist organizations and destabilizing the situation in the Middle East. Demarche against Qatar continued Libya and Yemen.
