The model of the most powerful and large nuclear icebreaker in the world "Leader" is being tested at the Krylov Scientific Center in St. Petersburg, the Fifth Channel reports.. The appearance of a vessel in the Arctic with a capacity of 120 MW of project 10510 is planned by 2025. According to designers, the icebreaker will be able to pass a four-meter thickness of ice, which will make the Northern Sea Route more convenient and safer.

The results of the experiments already conducted confirm the compliance of the selected form of the icebreaker hull with the requirements for wiring large-tonnage vessels in two-meter ice, according to the website of the Administration of the Moscow District of St. Petersburg. "After the construction of the" Leader ", we will consider the Northern Sea Route as an ordinary annual track of the movement," says Vladimir Vorobiev, chief designer of one of the divisions of the Krylov Center.
