The US Congress and the FBI are checking information on the "additional private meeting" of the Russian ambassador to Washington, Sergei Kislyak, with US Attorney General Jeff Sessions during the presidential campaign in the US in 2016, CNN reported.. The channel indicates that such a meeting took place on April 27, 2016 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington. On that day, presidential candidate Donald Trump delivered a keynote speech on foreign policy. "Before the speech, Trump Sessions and Kislyak took part in a small reception for a limited circle of people with organizers, diplomats and others," CNN quotes one of its sources. It is noted that the FBI is studying the likelihood that Kislyak and the Sittings could hold a meeting outside the official reception.

The US Justice Department, which heads the Sessions, in response to a request for meetings with Kislyak, said that he had no "private or informal" talks with Russian officials at the Mayflower Hotel. On May 25, CNN accused Secession of withholding information about meetings with Kislyak when filling in forms of admission to classified information. The television station claimed that the US Attorney General did not mention two meetings with the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Washington.
