From yesterday's meeting between Putin and Macron, they did not expect much. The positions of the newly elected French president on all issues of concern to the Kremlin were expressed with utmost clarity during the election campaign and confirmed by Mr. Macron more than once after the victory. To expect that Versailles Trianon will prompt Mr. Putin to change his views on Ukraine or Syria, there was also no reason. But unexpectedly the meeting produced an effect, moreover what!.
A lot of Russian people clearly saw how pathetic, hopeless, archaic and anachronistic in their Comintern-Soviet rhetoric of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact period, a man called the Russian president. Next to the young, brilliantly educated, handsome, elegant, sophisticated, Gaulish, smart Emanuel Macron, Vladimir Putin was losing obviously.
And it's not about physical age. No less, and more modern and smart European politician than Macron - Angela Merkel, falls into one age category with Mr. Putin. The matter is different, in a completely different. Russian citizens, watching the joint statement of the two presidents in Versailles, saw how far behind the world we have been for these last ill-fated years. We saw that we were rolling back into the dusty and bloody Stalinist stagnation, and the whole world was moving ahead and solving problems of a completely different order than fighting for a piece of foreign land, for spheres of influence, bases, and even more so for hiding money stolen in Panama or In Cyprus.
The world faces enormous global challenges: poverty, thirst and hunger for the Third World, the migration process and terrorism generated by this poverty, the global warming of the climate, development disparities, the transition to new sources of energy and much more. And these tasks are ready to be solved by Macron, Merkel and other leaders of the Seven, the countries of the European Union. And the other department - Putin with his hacker invasions in other people's elections, with his unrestrained constant lies, with the theft of his closest associates, and, possibly, his own, with his inability and unwillingness to solve the problem of the Crimea. Donbass, Syria in favor of the peoples of these lands and in accordance with the spirit of international law, with his justification of Assad, who is gasping his citizens, and concealing his own citizens who shot down the MN-17 airbus.
It was yesterday, in the magnificent Trianon, everyone with eyes, was finally clear - PUTIN IS ABSOLUTELY UNSPECIFIED.
Russia needs a different, dynamic leader, an experienced politician, who knows international relations, finance and law, but is completely unmarked by the Ukrainian and Syrian adventures, firmly opposing them from the very beginning and to this day. A politician known to the current Russian elite, but not desecrated by indulging Putin. Only such a politician will be able to provoke the confidence of the world and the trust of the best and most dynamic part of the ruling layer. Only such a politician will be able to conduct constructive negotiations with the West and get rid of the heavily Putin's heritage of sanctions, Syria, Crimea and Donbass with minimal costs for Russia. Finally, only such a politician will be able to return Russia to the constitutional-democratic course of development, avoiding the new Russian revolution "merciless", but, alas, not "meaningless" when it is so close already.
The meeting in Versailles formulated this task for our country with new clarity. Will the current Russian elites solve it, will they manage to understand that the round table is better than a street riot? Do not delay with the decision. On the political chronometer, the focus is already on the second hand.
