Negotiations of the presidents of Russia and France, Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron, held on May 29 in Versailles, lasted almost three hours.
The main topics of the meeting were bilateral relations, the situation in Syria and Ukraine.
"We really talked more about our bilateral relations, about Russia's relations with the European Union. They talked about problem points in the world and tried to find commonality with the president of the approaches to solving these complex issues, "Putin said on the outcome of the meeting.
He added that the parties managed to find common points of contact on the main issues.
In turn, Makron after the meeting stressed that Moscow and Paris are far from all agreed in opinion.
"We had a frank conversation and an exchange of views. I said everything I thought, to President Putin. We understand that we have differences. But we see how to think through common actions. If we do not have a frank, sincere dialogue, then we will not advance either on the Ukrainian or on the Syrian question, "- wrote Makron.
What they said about Ukraine The parties discussed the fate of the Minsk process and negotiations on Ukraine in the "Norman" format.
"We talked about various details and the implementation of the Minsk process. Our desire is, and I hope that President Putin will confirm what I say, we would like to see negotiations in the "Norman" format as soon as possible and that we discuss all the topics. And in this Norman format we would like to hear the OSCE report on the structuring elements of the events taking place, "said Makron.
Discussions in the "Norman format", which will allow participants to give a full assessment of the situation in Ukraine, will be held in the coming weeks.
Sanctions against Russia, Macron assured that, if necessary, he is ready to impose new sanctions against the Kremlin. The decisive factor may be the escalation of the conflict in the Donbass. Makron added that he hoped that the escalation did not arise.
The Syrian question According to Makron, to resolve the situation in this country it is necessary to find a political solution that would be inclusive and restore peace in the country. Macron stressed that the disintegration of the Syrian state and the deterioration of the situation should not be allowed.
Russian media Makron during a press conference following the meeting with Putin said that Russian television channel RT and Sputnik agency were spreading false information.
"RT and Sputnik, they spread false information, slander, and I believe they did not have (rights. - Red. ) To a place in my headquarters of a pre-election company ... They behaved like organs of influence, propaganda and false propaganda. Neither more nor less, "- said Makron.
