In Russia, the state accusation requests that the conditional єks-director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature Natalya Sharin, accused of extremism and embezzlement, be sentenced to five years' imprisonment.
This is reported by TASS.
"I ask to recognize Sharin as guilty of incriminating crimes and to impose a sentence of five years' imprisonment on probation," said prosecutor Lyudmila Balandina.
According to the prosecution, the suspect "overlooked the existence of extremist literature in the library, and it was she who had to regulate the work of the library".
"Only in one of the books, which is confirmed by the results of the examinations, contains calls for hostility towards the Russians, although the defendant claimed that the books were planted during searches, which is untrue," said the prosecutor.
In addition, she said, the ex-director of the library fictitiously employed two people for two years as lawyers.
"There is - a blatant lie by Sharina, who did not provide the court with any document certifying the official employment of two legal advisers," added Balandina.
The prosecutor also applied for the prohibition of Sharina to hold positions related to public and political activities and civil service for a period of three years and to satisfy the claim of the injured party in part and to recover from the accused more than 2.1 million rubles. (Almost 1 million UAH. - Red. ) For damage to the library.
Protection of Sharina asked her to justify.
"The charge is vague. We believe that in this case there was no event of the crime itself. We ask to justify Sharin in the incriminated crimes, "said the lawyer Ivan Pavlov.
The suspect refused to admit guilt.
"I absolutely do not consider myself guilty of anything and ask to justify myself on all counts, not to mention some rehabilitation and apology. It is the reader who reads the contents of the book and draws conclusions from it, for which he took this book. Those who need to read books, for example, Korchinsky, they can do it on the Internet, "Sharina stressed..
She added that "the library has legally published books, and publishers are responsible for ensuring that books do not have extremism, which is violence".
As reported by the "Observer", in October 2015 in the Library of Ukrainian Literature in Moscow were searched. Then its director Natalia Sharina was detained. She was confiscated 150 books and brochures. The reason for the initiation of the case was allegedly the distribution among the library visitors of the edition of Dmitry Korchinsky, which was recognized by the Russian court as extremist.
