At the 90th year of his life in the United States died a well-known political scientist Zbigniew Brzezinski.

He died in Virginia, wrote The New York Times.

The "observer" suggests familiarizing himself with the key statements of the ex-adviser to the US president about the situation with the war of Russia against Ukraine.

"I do not know (is the Crimea lost for Ukraine?". - Red. ), But this issue should be returned when the relations between Ukraine and Russia once again become at least to some extent rational and stable. The Russians brought irrationality and emotionality into these relations, they conducted a bandit attack on the Crimea, disguising it as the mafia would have done. But they should be careful not to apply this approach to the whole of Ukraine - this will lead to a much more powerful explosion in the heart of Europe, to a conflict that the world has not seen since 1939, "said Brzezinski.

"The big risk is that Russia is ruled by an irrational leader with megalomania. This worries many Russians. Suppose that Putin will be able to permanently separate the Crimea from Ukraine: he will get the Crimea, but lose Ukraine for many decades, as it will cause a powerful nationalistic reaction against Moscow! Ukrainians define their identity through their land. Putin makes a terrible mistake, "the political scientist said at a security conference in Munich.

At the same time, Brzezinski sometimes skeptically assessed the Ukrainian defense capability.

"In Crimea, with 20 thousand Ukrainian military, no one shot on his own initiative. I myself come from Europe and so, when I think about the Motherland of my parents, I can not imagine that with 20 thousand. Polish soldiers, while trying to seize power, no one shot. I think there would be a great massacre. The fact that everything happened differently in Ukraine - something says something. Putin made his own conclusions. I realized that everything is even easier than he expected, "the political scientist said..

But he also optimistically assessed the European future of Ukraine, spoke about the determination of Ukrainians in countering the encroachments of Russia. He stressed that citizens of Ukraine deserve to be Europeans, but for this to overcome corruption, which demoralizes the state, society and even the armed forces. And Russia is forced to accept this.

"Ukraine should have the right to freely choose its political identity and be more connected with Europe. At the same time, Russia needs to be assured that Ukraine will not be admitted to NATO. This is the solution formula (conflict. - Red. ) ", - thought Brzezinski.

Also, the political scientist advised the US authorities to work out a concept for resolving the Ukrainian crisis that would suit both the West and Russia.

Brzezinski was born in the Polish capital Warsaw in 1928 in the family of a diplomat. She later went to the US.

He is the author of many studies in the field of international relations and geopolitics.

As reported by the "Observer", Brzezinski proposed a scenario of Ukraine's exit from the crisis.
