Petersburg "Zenith" dismissed Maxim Mitrofanov as general director. This is reported by "Sport Day by Day". The order for this was signed on Friday, May 26. The place of Mitrofanov was taken by the former president of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Sergei Fursenko. It is noted that the functionary left in retirement may take a post in the directorate of the St. Petersburg Arena. Mitrofanov served as the General Director of Zenit from January 1, 2007.
Since 2003 Fursenko has been a member of the board of directors of Zenit, and in 2005-2008 he was the president of the club. From 2010 to 2012 he headed the RFU and resigned after the unsuccessful performance of the Russian team in the final of the European Championship 2012. At that tournament Russians under the leadership of Dutchman Dick Advocaat failed to overcome the barrier of the group stage.
