The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already begun negotiations on the introduction of visa-free travel with these territories, but this process will require additional time. "The introduction of visa-free travel to the overseas territories of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Is expected not earlier than autumn of 2017, "- said in the response of the DKS Foreign Ministry. The diplomats explained that the procedure is lengthy because the island territories - Aruba, Curacao and Sint-Martin - carry out their own migration policies.

In the case of the overseas territories of France, the situation is different, the decision on visa-free travel is adopted in Paris, but it is also not automatic and "will require changes to the current French legislation". Among the overseas territories of France are Guadeloupe, Mayotte, Martinique, French Guiana, Reunion, Saint Barthelemy, St. Maarten, St. Pierre and Miquelon, Wallis and Futuna, French Polynesia.
