Russian President Vladimir Putin is looking for a new economic strategy, with which he can go for another presidential term. The development of strategies presupposes not only the renewal of ideas, but also high places in the country's leadership, so that the competition is foreseen to present its idea rather big, writes ZN. The author of the article, Alexei Izhak, notes that in the struggle to develop the economic strategy of the new presidential term last spring, the former Finance Minister, who was still entering the office of President Alexei Kudrin with his Center for Strategic Research.

Stolypin club, whose front is the adviser to the Russian president, Sergei Glazyev, immediately began to create an alternative. Kudrin's liberal ideas, suggesting fiscal consolidation, comprehensive reforms of the state apparatus and "reducing geopolitical tensions," were confronted with ideas of Glazyev's budget stimulus without internal reforms in Russia's self-isolation.

A few months later, the strategy race included Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. The President created for him the Council for Strategic Development and Priority Projects. In the fall there was a rapprochement between Medvedev and Kudrin, they even began to meet for economic discussions (for the first time after a personal conflict that occurred in 2011).

Kudrin's ideas were transformed into a softer version. Last fall, he announced that he had found the recipe for a 4% economic growth even without profound political reforms.

Medvedev's strategy was reduced, ultimately, to the publication last fall of his name of the article in the leading Russian economic publication "Issues of Economics", which he hardly wrote and read. Glazyev became an expression of the frightening "Venezuelan" alternative, proving by its very existence in power the correctness of the approaches guided by the current liberal economic bloc of the government and the leadership of the Central Bank. But Kudrin did not reach his strategic peak. In early May, he announced the completion of work on the proposals for the strategy, but refused to disclose the results, referring to the need for personal familiarization with the president.
