President of the United States Donald Trump said that the former Democratic senator Joe Lieberman is one of the main contenders for the post of director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

This is reported by "New time" with reference to CNN.

So, speaking to reporters during a meeting with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, Trump said that he was "very close" to appointing a new director of the FBI.

Asked if the 75-year-old Lieberman is the main candidate for this position, Trump replied: "Yes".



According to the source, Trump on Wednesday, May 17, held a meeting with Lieberman and found his candidacy "suitable".

Joe Lieberman is a former US senator (initially representing the interests of the Democratic Party, then re-elected as an independent candidate) from Connecticut. He unsuccessfully ran for president from the Democratic Party in 2004.
