President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin for the first time held a telephone conversation with the new French leader Emmanuel Macron.

Putin congratulated Makron on the official assumption of the post of head of state and the formation of a new government, and also discussed a number of issues with him.
"There is expressed mutual readiness to develop the traditionally friendly Russian-French relations in the political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres," the message says..
The presidents of Russia and France also agreed to work together on topical international and regional issues, including the fight against terrorism.
In particular, the topic of the armed conflict in the east of Ukraine was touched upon, as well as the ways of its solution within the "Norman format" and on the basis of the Minsk agreements.
