The District Court of the Ukrainian city of Genichesk of the Kherson region passed a verdict to Eduard Kovalenko, who was accused of organizing a rally against mobilization. According to the local newspaper "New Visit", the convict was sentenced to five years in prison. Speaking at an anti-mobilization rally in Genichesk in January 2015, Kovalenko said that in the event of another mobilization wave in Ukraine, he, along with like-minded people, would block the roads, seize the military commissariat, police and other authorities. After that, a criminal case was opened against him on the article "Obstruction of the lawful activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations". The judge agreed with the prosecution's arguments and granted the prosecutor's request that the defendant be taken into custody.
Kovalenko was detained in the courtroom. "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" recalls that Kovalenko was the initiator of the appeal for help to the leadership of Russia in January last year, when the city was left without gas supply. The newspaper writes that the prosecution does not hide that they want to punish Kovalenko for a daring request for help, not for anti-war sentiments.
