The Baltic countries - Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania intend to refuse to receive electricity from the common energy system with Russia and enter the EU network by connecting to the grid through Poland. Thus, it is planned to minimize the energy dependence of the Baltic states on the Russian Federation, writes the Krainian editorial office DW.
"All of us four agreed to clarify the distribution (responsibilities - ed. ) Between the four countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland - Ed) by the end of the year, "said Prime Minister of Estonia Juri Ratas.
Specific dates of reconnection to the EU energy network are not called, however it is known that earlier it was planned for 2025. The project, however, was postponed, due to discussions about the point of connection to the European network - in Poland or Finland (via an underwater electrical cable).
Connection through Poland was deemed more economically viable.
It will also be necessary to take into account the fact that the Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation is synchronized with the Russian electricity network through the Baltic States.
It is also noted that Russia has never cut off electricity to the Baltic countries and has not even threatened to do so, but Lithuania considers the fact of energy dependence on the Russian Federation as one of the main national dangers.
Earlier in Lithuania, it was noted that Russia had increased its strength and the ability to launch an offensive against any of the three Baltic countries in 24 hours, thereby limiting NATO's ability to respond to aggression properly.
