The Puntigam brewery will soon begin to supply heat energy to the homes and offices of the city of Graz in the southeast of Austria. This is reported by the newspaper Kleine Zeitung. The concept was developed by the energy company C & P together with the Austrian brewery Brau Union. The project, according to which the heat from the brewing process will be directed to the heating of the premises, was presented on Friday, May 5. According to the managing director of Brau Union Austria, Markus Liebl (Markus Liebl), in Europe such a system will be used for the first time. 40 thermal energy tanks, which are produced daily when creating four thousand liters of beer, will be sent to a new district of the city, which has already received the name "Brauquartier".

According to the publication, in 2023 it is planned to provide heat from 800 to 1000 residential premises, which will require about 3.8 million kilowatts per hour. The company for the production of heat pumps Kelag invested in the project about 1.5 million euros. It is reported that the first apartment in the Brewery district will be ready next year. It is also known that it will be the third largest in Graz after the districts of Reininghaus-Grunden and Smart City,.
