Every morning I look at myself in the mirror while brushing my teeth. And, of course, like everyone else, I think I have not changed at all. But this is so long as you do not look at old photographs of twenty or even ten years ago.
Or when you meet someone you have not seen for a long time. Then, too, you begin to understand how we spare no time.
Mental changes also occur imperceptibly. And the memory weakens and the speed of reaction disappears. You become a slow-witted person, you do not immediately grasp the topic, jokes go badly.
What happens to the Russians - also happens unnoticed and, above all, by him. But those who live apart from the Moscow mainstream and do not watch the Kremlin TV channels, even with imported products (not to mention the consumer goods for domestic use), the changes can be seen very clearly.
Especially if you communicate with the Russians (even quite advanced) from time to time and with great interruptions.
Here, for example, a friend. Travels to Europe by car. Met in Munich. He is already coming back. I told him: how are you going? He answered: I will go to Warsaw, then to Brest and through Belarus to Moscow. I: through Vienna, to Krakow - Lviv - Kiev - in short! He told me: Are you crazy? In Ukraine they will beat me! There, if you speak in Russian, you can kill!.
And with a confident voice, like a fact. I say: where did you get this? I, for example, every year in the summer I go to Lviv (!) For a jazz festival. I speak only Russian. No aggression. All very nice.
If you do not know Russian - answer in Ukrainian. If they know, they necessarily switch to Russian. All very friendly and hospitable. I see - it's useless: I do not believe. Ukraine itself has not been in ten years. But I do not believe.
Or other. Everything is right: Putin is a thief and so on.. But we should start about Crimea - at once a flame from nostrils, a breast with a wheel: our earth, blood of ancestors watered. I myself have never been there, there is no understanding of the history of the Crimea, but there: our land. Why? Without arguments: our - and all.
Again, about the Maidan (almost all) without a doubt: the Americans paid money to people. Nuland think only cookies gave out? Do not be naive!.
To my question: if for money it is possible to collect multi-month rallies for half a million people and throw them under bullets, then why can not the Kremlin for the money raise a rally in its favor more than 30-50 thousand and more than for a couple of hours and then only from migrant workers ?.
In response - silence and cunning squint: do not understand, fell under the influence of Americans. I suppose you're taking the money from them. And then - where do you want to go? Tea is an expat! Probably - you yearn for it? Boring to you here, probably.
That's the certainty that they have fun in Moscow and that, in general, the very center of intellectual life there, in Zlatoglava - is, of course, very hilarious to hear from the viewers of Russian channels, completely clogged by the western franchise.
Still striking is the belief that Russia is a tasty morsel by which the West drools. Confidence that Russia wants to conquer and conquer - the core of mentality. And the danger is seen only from the West. China does not cause any straining. Despite the fact that the whole texture speaks about the opposite.
In general, to convince the Moscow interlocutors that they are indifferent to everyone here - it is impossible. I'm afraid that realizing this truth will kill them, so it will be humiliating for them.
Once I told one of my interlocutors from Moscow that I had accidentally met Antonio Banderas. She asked the same: did you tell him you were from Russia? I was surprised: why? She: Well, how! He would be stunned, of course!.
And here's what I'll tell you (I'll return to the idea with which I started): this insanity is imperceptible within Russian society, since on these topics there is a certain consensus of 90% of the society. Even to a large extent that part of it that is critical of the current government.
But from the outside it looks very unusual and, even, wildly.
So sometimes provincials who come to Moscow torment all friends with stories about the vicissitudes of their local (Saratov, Ufa, Tagil) lives (listing the names of directors of factories, local czars and bandits), being sure that everyone has something to do with this and that it's all terribly interesting.
