Malnutrition is the main cause of mass migration in the world. Hunger forces people to leave their homes in search of food, and massive population movements lead to aggravation of humanitarian crises and a huge load on the food systems of countries hosting migrants, the World Food Program (WFP) report says..
"Malnutrition is the main cause of migration," the report says, the UN News Center.
It says that "a reduction in the level of food security by one percent has been increasing the number of international migrants by 1.9 percent".
In this regard, WFP experts urge UN member states and private donors to invest more in the development of agriculture and the strengthening of food systems in countries of origin of migrants.
