The European Commission recommends that some European countries continue to monitor the internal borders of the members of the European Union, which was introduced in connection with the migration crisis, but at the same time, within the next six months, the Schengen should return to full operation, the Commission said..

As noted in the press release of the EC, stabilization of the situation at the borders is recorded, therefore it is recommended to phase out internal inspections step by step.

"To date, the Commission recommends that Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway phase out the interim control measures that are currently in place on some internal borders within the next six months," reads the text of the European Commission's communication.

The EC explains that during the next 6 months, monitoring should be carried out only in extreme circumstances.

"Thanks to our joint efforts, the internal borders of the EU have become stronger and safer. This means that in six months we must return to the full functioning of the Schengen zone without internal border control, "- said the first vice-president of the European Commission, France Timmermans, commenting on the plans for the phase-out of border controls.
