The leaders of the EU countries unanimously approved the terms of negotiations with the UK, which is preparing to leave the union. The "hard" Brexit, followed by British Prime Minister Theresa May, was followed by an equally tough European response. As a result, the withdrawal of London from the united Europe turned out to be a big question.

This opinion was expressed by journalist Vitaly Portnikov in a blog on the site "Glavred".

"The EU countries will require London to secure the rights of Europeans who live on the" departing "island and fulfill financial obligations to the EU - and this is from 40 to 60 billion euros. Only after agreeing all these conditions, the EU will begin negotiations with the UK on new trade relations. But if these negotiations continue after 2019 - the date of the possible withdrawal of the UK from the EU - all this time the country will have to be in the legal space of the European Union and obey the decisions of the European Court, "- writes the journalist.

According to him, the British prime minister had to admit with regret that negotiations with Europeans could end without signing any trade agreement. Moreover, May does not have an answer to the question of how the British economy will function in the event that there is no agreement.

Portnikov said that Brussels will talk with the British hard and uncompromisingly to prevent the "domino effect" and dislodge the trump cards from the hands of populists such as the Frenchwoman Marin Le Pen and the Dutchman Gert Wilders, advocating for withdrawal from the EU.

"And now the British are faced with reality. And this reality is such that a stable development of the country can be ensured only if the country remains in the EU space, even if it refuses to influence the development of the union. Stupid? Perhaps. But Brexit himself was an obvious folly from the beginning to the end. And not even because the European Union is ideal. But because it is much easier to enter than to get out of it, "he explained..

"Modern Britain is governed not by responsible politicians, but by politicians who want to win elections. Well, it will work out for them. The possible triumph of Therese May coincides with the consequences of Brexit and the disappointment of the British in the outcome of their withdrawal from the EU - if this exit actually takes place. And then the heir of the incumbent British prime minister will have to implement a tough "anti-Brexit".

It is this man who will enter the history of the country as a "savior of the Fatherland", and nobody will remember his predecessors with their meaningless referendums and the implementation of the clearly expressed will of citizens, "concluded Portnikov.

As reported by the "Observer", officially talks on Brexit should be completed in the fall of 2018, and the final exit of Britain from the European Union - in March 2019.
