The Constitutional Court of Moldova declared unconstitutional the stay of the Russian military on the territory of the Transnistrian region of the republic.

The judges' decision stated that "about 11 percent of the territory of Moldova is occupied, and the Russian army was not withdrawn from the Transnistrian region".
"The principle of neutrality does not prevent the participation of Moldova in peacekeeping operations and military exercises aimed at increasing the army's combat capability in order to ensure the security of the country," reads the text of the document of the Constitutional Court.
With the requirement to recognize the stay of Russian peacekeepers on the territory of Transnistria as unconstitutional two years ago, the Liberal Party of Moldova addressed the Constitutional Court.
As reported by the "Observer", more than 1,500 servicemen of Russia are stationed on the territory of the Transnistrian region, and more than 20,000 tons of ammunition and air bombs are stored at military depots in the village of Kolbasna, Rybnitsa region. Penal punishment for denying the positive role of Russia's peacekeeping mission in the region.
Let's note, in Transdniestria lives hardly less half a million people. More than a third of the region's population is Moldovans, about 30% are Russians, and almost 32% are Ukrainians.
Chisinau requires the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and weapons from the territory of the unrecognized Transnistria. President of Moldova Igor Dodon intends to grant a special status to the Transnistrian region.
