German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi on May 2, asked him to stand up for the rights of LGBT representatives in Chechnya.

A similar request concerned the organization of "Jehovah's Witnesses", which was banned in Russia and recognized as extremist, writes ZN. Ua.

"I also said that a very negative report was published on what is happening with homosexuals in Chechnya and asked the president to influence the rights of minorities," the German chancellor said after meeting with the Russian president.

As reported by the "Observer", the US permanent representative to the UN reacted to the scandal with the persecution of gays in Chechnya.
