In the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, Minister of Social Justice and Rural Development Gopal Bhargava presented 700 brides with wooden beats. On this Sunday, April 30, reports DailyMail. According to the politician, women can use them as weapons if husbands behave inappropriately after drinking alcohol. A special gift was given to the brides who married in a mass wedding ceremony organized by local authorities. On each of the bits there are inscriptions "For whipping drunkards" and "The police do not interfere". Bhargava advised women to start a dialogue with their drunken husbands, but if they refuse to listen, to use the wedding gift. At the same time, he stressed that he has no intention of inciting someone to violence. According to the minister, by his act he wanted to draw attention to the plight of rural women who face domestic violence from their alcoholic husbands. In total, it is planned to give out to the newlyweds 10,000 such bits. Alcoholism and related crimes in the last few years have long been turned into one of the most serious problems of India. Local authorities are trying to fight the disease, but they do not succeed in this yet.

Since April 2016 in one of the poorest Indian states of Bihar there is a complete ban on the sale and use of alcohol. The corresponding law was signed by the Chief Minister of the State Nitish Kumar. Shortly before this, a complete or partial ban on the use and sale of alcohol was introduced by the states of Gujarat and Kerala, which are considered to be one of the most prosperous Indian regions.
