President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Pedro Agramunt said that his visit to Syria together with the deputies of the Russian State Duma (recognized illegitimate in Ukraine. - Red. ) Is not connected with the work in the post of the head of PACE.

This is stated in his written comments, which he provided to the PACE Bureau members, writes the European truth.

At the same time, Agramunt admitted that he should inform representatives of other political groups about his intentions.

In his opinion, the problem was caused by the fact that "the visit was the subject of manipulation by certain Russian media" that did not disclose the private nature of the visit and created the impression that it supports Assad; Agramunt assured that this is not so.

The publication notes that in the explanations of the PACE President there are a number of obvious manipulations.

In particular, he stated that his trip was financed by the Syrian parliament; But there is a video of how Agramunt descends the ramp of an aircraft of the Russian Defense Ministry, which arrived in Damascus from Moscow.

It is noteworthy that the purpose of the trip was the desire to see the consequences of the tragedy in Aleppo, but then he admitted that he did not go to Aleppo, unlike the other delegation members.

As the Observer reported, the Verkhovna Rada deputies called on the Spanish Parliament to consider the possibility of recalling Pedro Agramunt from the Spanish delegation to the PACE, which automatically deprives him of the post of President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
