In the town of Chichester in Sussex in the south of England found a rare parchment copy of the text of the Declaration of Independence of the United States. It was discovered by scientists at Harvard University.

Earlier, it was known only about one parchment with the text of the document, which is kept by the National Archives in Washington, writes Radio Liberty,.

The parchment dates back to the eighties of the 18th century, and its first owner was probably John Lennox, the Duke of Richmond, who received the nickname of a "radical duke" because he advocated the independence of the North American states.

Now the possibility of examining parchment is studied so as not to harm him.

The US Declaration of Independence is a document in which British colonies in North America declared independence from Britain. The Declaration was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
