Italy, if necessary, will support the common decision of the EU countries to extend sanctions against the Russian Federation.

This position in an interview with the Washington Post was voiced by the Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni.

"We will support the common solution and do not violate our unity. If necessary, we will have to show that we are not weak, "- said the Prime Minister of Italy.

At the same time he noted that the economies of Italy and Germany were the most affected in Europe by sanctions against the Russian Federation.

Earlier Gentiloni stated that despite these economic losses, the decision to impose sanctions was nevertheless a necessary reaction to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
