The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation on Thursday, April 20, granted the claim of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, recognizing "Jehovah's Witnesses" as an extremist organization. Religious organization is liquidated, and its activities in Russia are banned.
The court decision provides for the immediate liquidation of all 395 branches of Jehovah's Witnesses in the Russian Federation, and the organization's property is turned into state revenue.
During the trial, Judge Yury Ivanenko announced the operative part of the decision, his full text will be issued to the parties within five days.
"Jehovah's Witnesses" announced their intention to appeal the decision in appeal. If it remains in force, a lawsuit will be filed with the European Court of Human Rights.
Recall that in October last year, the Tver City Court issued a warning to "Jehovah's Witnesses" for "extremist activities". In January, the Moscow City Court found the issuance of a warning legal.
In the suit of the Russian Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation referred to numerous violations in the activities of the organization, identified during an unscheduled audit. The plaintiff demanded to recognize the organization as extremist, liquidate and ban it, and also confiscate property.
