French presidential candidate Francois Fillon, who is considered an adherent of President Vladimir Putin, called the occupied Crimea "historically Russian territory", saying that Russia will never leave the peninsula.
This statement was made by the leader of the Republican Party in an interview with the newspaper Figaro, RIA Novosti reports..
"It's useless to be stubborn and say that Russia should leave the Crimea, it will never happen ... No one can deny that Crimea is Russian with a historical, cultural and linguistic point of view," he said..
According to Fillon, in the approach to the Crimean question it is necessary to take into account two fundamental and contradictory principles: respect for borders and the right of the people to self-determination.
The politician also said that the situation with the Crimea can be resolved through a special international conference under the auspices of the United Nations.
Recall, earlier Fillon proposed to abolish restrictive measures against Moscow, as the responsibility for Russian aggression in the Donbass, he said, lies in Ukraine.
As reported by the "Observer", also Fillon said that Russia is a dangerous country.
