The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine gave an explanation for the words of Minister German Galushchenko, who, commenting on the position of the European Commission on the issue of completing the power units of the Khmelnitsky NPP, allegedly used the term “middle-level clerk” in relation to EU Ambassador Katarina Maternova. The statement was published on the Ministry of Energy Facebook page.

The incident occurred on January 10. Energy Minister German Galushchenko had a conflict with people's deputy from the Golos faction Inna Sovsun.

Sovsun noted that, according to Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, the completion of the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant has been agreed with partners from the United States. At the same time, the Energy Committee of the Rada, of which Sovsun is a member, “received a message from the delegation of the European Commission and the US Embassy in Ukraine, who are concerned that information is appearing in the public space that they allegedly officially support the completion of the KhNPP.”.

" They would like to avoid such manipulations in the future,” Sovsun said..

Galushchenko responded in return: “But regarding the position of the middle-level clerks of the European Commission, Inna, I am very sorry that you are running around embassies and throwing mud at our energy sector and our state.”.

After this, the minister said that “in fact, there is no single approach to the development of nuclear energy in the EU and everyone knows about this”.

People's Deputy from Golos Yaroslav Zheleznyak, commenting on Galushchenko's statements, noted that the position of European and American partners was publicly expressed by EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova, “a very respected ambassador and friend of Ukraine”.

The Ministry of Energy said that the Energy Minister did not mean the EU Ambassador to Ukraine Ekaterina Maternova, using the term “middle-level clerk”. The department noted that Galushchenko “mentioned in a positive way the statement of the EU Ambassador to Ukraine”.

Earlier it was reported that people's deputies from different factions registered a resolution on the dismissal of German Galushchenko. Inna Sovsun wrote that she was the initiator of the relevant resolution.
