The European Commission has made a lot of efforts to coordinate among the EU countries on the adoption of the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia, which includes an embargo on the supply of Russian oil, but as of today it is difficult to expect a positive decision on this issue within the next 48 hours.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said this in Brussels before the start of a special meeting of the European Council, an Ukrinform correspondent reports..

“The discussion on the sixth package of sanctions that we have proposed has never been easy.. We have now solved all the problems, except for one. It is a matter of (supplying) crude oil through pipelines. However, discussions are still ongoing.. I do not have high expectations that we will reach a decision within the next 48 hours, but we will probably be able to do it in the next days. My call is very clear to member countries. The key to success has been and remains unchanged - solidarity with Ukraine and the unity of the European Union. This is something we need to work on,” the head of the European Commission stressed..

She assured that the European Commission and the French EU Presidency continue to work hard to resolve the issue of adopting the sixth package of sanctions against the aggressor country..

Ursula von der Leyen recalled that during the informal EU summit in Versailles (March 10-11), the European Commission received a request from EU leaders to develop proposals for the development of three topics.

The first one is the area of \u200b\u200bEU defense, weaknesses in this area and their analysis. The second theme is the European Union's REPowerEU energy development plan, which includes diversifying supply chains in and out of dependence on Russia for fossil fuel supplies, along with significant investments in renewable energy development..

“The third topic, of course, is Ukraine. We must focus on short-term financial assistance measures, as well as recovery measures for the medium and long term,” said Ursula von der Leyen.
