European External Action Service is working on sanctions after EU foreign ministers gave them the green light in mid-August. EU officials emphasize that the decision in this case must be well prepared and documented so that the EU Court does not challenge it in the event of a complaint.

Writes about this URA-Inform with reference to PAP.

European External Action Service Secretary General Helga Schmid announced earlier on Tuesday at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament that EU foreign ministers, who will meet on Thursday and Friday at an informal meeting in Berlin, will discuss sanctions against those responsible for the violence and electoral fraud.

Formally, the sanctions list must be approved by the EU Council. In this case, unanimity between the member countries will be needed.. Restrictions for Belarusian officials and officials will include a ban on entering the EU and freezing their assets in the EU. It is unclear whether these measures will also target President Alexander Lukashenko.

Earlier we reported that the Supreme Court of Belarus refused to open a case on non-recognition of the elections.
