Chrystia Freeland heads the Ministry of Finance of Canada

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, politician with Ukrainian roots Chrystia Freeland headed the Ministry of Finance of this country. Reported by Toronto Sun.

Freeland was officially sworn in on Tuesday afternoon at Rideau Hall. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau.

Freeland is considered the first woman in Canada to hold this position in the Cabinet. She will replace Bill Morneau, who resigned on Monday.

In addition to managing the Ministry of Finance, Freeland will continue to serve as Deputy Prime Minister. Canada is now facing its largest fiscal deficit since World War II, as the Treasury Secretary's job will include planning for economic recovery amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic..



The government has not yet submitted a budget for 2020 because plans to do so in March were canceled due to coronavirus.

52-year-old Chrystia Freeland from 2017 to 2019 headed the Canadian Foreign Ministry. Until then, from 2015 to 2017, she was Canada's Minister of International Trade.. Chrystia Freeland was born in the Canadian town of Peace River in the province of Alberta. The politician's mother, Galina Khomyak-Freeland, is of Ukrainian origin.
