UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission urged Ukrainian authorities to refrain from setting unnecessary restrictions on the work of the media. This is stated on the organization’s page on Facebook, reports UNN.

" We share the indignation of the media community and civil society that the current draft law on disinformation does not comply with international human rights standards, can undermine media freedom and lead to self-censorship, "

It is pointed out that an attempt to criminalize the dissemination of misinformation may lead to prosecution of journalists simply because they do their job. The UN also advises the Ukrainian authorities to refrain from creating bodies responsible for monitoring and filtering content.

" We urge the Ministry of Culture, which developed this first draft law, to comply with international human rights standards, continue public discussion and ensure its openness and inclusiveness, ”the organizations added.
