Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he does not consider it a good practice when the head of the (Russian) state is in power indefinitely, RIA Novosti reports..

He said this in response to a request from a veteran to amend the Constitution so that the powers of the president are not "

Putin thanked the veteran in response and said that he understood why many Russians worry about stability.. But he called the situation “alarming”, which was in the 80s, when the country's leaders were in power “until the end of their days”.

“Therefore, thank you, but I think that it’s better not to return to this situation, to the situation that was in the mid-80s,” Putin said.

Earlier, Putin agreed that the president of the country cannot hold the post of head of state for more than two consecutive terms. Prior to this, Putin said during a large press conference that he admits the possibility of canceling the reservation “in a row” in the article of the Constitution on the presidential term.

Putin was first elected president in 2000, re-elected for a second term in 2004, in 2008 he did not run and was elected twice more - in 2012 and 2018.
